Lambug Beach
A long, quiet stretch of white sand and clear, shallow water in Badian, with views to Negros and lovely sunsets. A relaxed beach close to Kawasan Falls.
Lambug Beach is a long, relaxed stretch of white sand in Badian, on the southwest coast of Cebu. The water is clear and shallow, the sand is soft, and on a clear day you can see the mountains of Negros across the Tañon Strait. It is quieter than many beaches in Cebu, and only a short ride from Kawasan Falls, so it is perfect for a swim and a sunset after a day at the waterfalls.
Why go to Lambug Beach
- Soft white sand and clear, calm water, without the big resort crowds.
- Sunsets over the Tañon Strait, with Negros on the horizon.
- A public beach with simple cottages, good for families and picnics.
- Close to Kawasan Falls and Moalboal.
The beach
The beach stretches along the coast of the barangay of Lambug, with a public area and several small resorts and guesthouses. You can rent a cottage or table for the day and bring your own food, as many local families do. The water stays shallow for a long way out, which is lovely for wading and for children.
At low tide, parts of the beach turn very shallow, with seagrass and rocks. Wear water shoes and watch where you step: sea urchins live among the rocks. For the best swim, come when the tide is higher.
Small entrance or environmental fees are collected at the public beach, and some resorts charge their own day-use fee. Bring small bills, and check the current rates when you arrive.
Lambug is a beach for slowing down, not for parties. Evenings are quiet, with the sound of the waves, a few lights along the shore and local families enjoying the cool air. If you want nightlife and dive shops, stay in Moalboal and come here for the day.
Things to do
- Swim and wade in the clear, shallow water.
- Picnic in a rented cottage with food from the market.
- Watch the sunset over the strait.
- Visit Kawasan Falls in the morning and come here in the afternoon.
- Go canyoneering from Alegria and finish with a beach evening.
How to get to Lambug Beach from Cebu City
- Go to the Cebu South Bus Terminal.
- Take a bus to Bato via Barili, which runs down the west coast. Do not take the bus via Oslob.
- Ask the conductor to drop you at the Lambug junction in Badian. About 3-3.5 hours.
- Take a tricycle or habal-habal (motorbike taxi) from the highway down to the beach.
If you are driving, search for Lambug Beach on your map app and follow the signs from the highway. Fares change, so check them on the day.
Getting around
Buses and minibuses run along the coastal highway, so it is easy to reach Kawasan Falls, Badian town and Moalboal. Tricycles and habal-habal handle the short rides between the highway and the beach. Agree on the fare before you go.
Where to stay and eat
There are simple beach resorts, cottages and guesthouses along Lambug, from basic rooms to comfortable beachfront stays. Many let you bring and cook your own food. For more choice of restaurants, head to Badian town or Moalboal. Bring snacks and water if you plan to stay at the public beach all day.
When to go
The dry season, from about December to May, brings the sunniest days and calmest sea. Holy Week, summer weekends and holidays are very busy with local families, so come on a weekday if you want space on the sand. From about June to November there is more rain, but you can still enjoy quiet beach days between showers.
Tips for a good trip
- Check the tide times and plan your swim for high tide.
- Wear water shoes and look out for sea urchins.
- Use reef-safe sunscreen and bring shade for the middle of the day.
- Take your trash with you and leave the beach clean.
Make it a South Cebu weekend: add Kawasan Falls and the sardine run in Moalboal.
