Bohol 2-day itinerary from Cebu
Bohol is close to Cebu and easy to reach by fast ferry. Two days is enough to see its famous sights: the Chocolate Hills, tarsiers, the Loboc River and the white beaches of Panglao. This plan keeps things relaxed and avoids too much driving.
Times, fares and fees below are estimates. Check the operators and sites before you travel.
Before you go
- Ferry: fast ferries link Cebu and Tagbilaran and take roughly 2 hours. Read the Cebu to Bohol ferry guide and book an early sailing.
- Where to stay: Panglao Island (Alona and Dumaluan areas) has the most choices and is a short ride from Tagbilaran. Tagbilaran city is cheaper but less scenic.
- Getting around: hire a car with a driver, or join a countryside tour. Tricycles and vans work for short rides.
- Bring: cash, sun protection, a swimsuit, and a light layer for the boat. See the packing list.
Day 1: the countryside tour
This is the classic loop. It starts early and covers a lot, so wear comfortable shoes.

- Take the earliest fast ferry to Tagbilaran and head out as soon as you arrive. A driver or a pre-arranged tour will save time.
- Baclayon Church is one of the oldest stone churches in the country. A quick stop; dress modestly.
- Blood Compact monument marks the historic friendship pact between a local chief and the Spanish explorer Legazpi. It is a short stop beside the road.
- Loboc River cruise includes a buffet lunch on a floating restaurant. Read the Loboc River cruise guide.
- Tarsier visit. Choose a sanctuary where the animals are protected and kept in natural surroundings, with no flash photos and no touching. See the tarsier sanctuary guide.
- Chocolate Hills are best seen in the late afternoon from the main viewing deck, where there are many steps. See the Chocolate Hills guide.
- Man-made forest in Bilar is a quick, shady stop on the way back. See Bilar Man-made Forest.
You will likely return to your hotel at dusk. A fixed itinerary with a driver usually costs from about ₱3,000 to ₱5,000 for a vehicle, plus entrance fees. Treat this as a rough guide and check the price before you agree.

Day 2: Panglao beaches and islands
Take it easier today. Start early for the best chance of calm water and wildlife.

- Morning island hopping. Many boats leave Alona Beach around dawn for dolphin watching and a stop at Balicasag or Virgin Island. See Balicasag Island and Panglao. Keep a respectful distance from dolphins and never touch coral or turtles.
- Snorkelling. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and wear a life vest if you are not a strong swimmer. See snorkelling tips, which also apply in Bohol.
- Lunch at Alona or in a local eatery back in Tagbilaran. Fresh seafood is common.
- Hinagdanan Cave is a short stop with a small swimming hole inside. Wear sandals with a good grip. See Hinagdanan Cave.
- Beach time and sunset. Alona Beach has a lively evening scene with restaurants and live music. Dumaluan Beach is quieter.
Day 2 afternoon: the ferry back
If you must return to Cebu on day two, book a sailing in the afternoon and leave at least a couple of hours between your tour and the ferry. Allow extra time for traffic and port checks. If you can, stay a third night for a calmer return.
Budget idea
- Ferry return: roughly ₱1,000 to ₱1,800 per person, depending on operator and class.
- Accommodation: about ₱1,000 to ₱3,000 a night for a simple double room in Panglao.
- Food: about ₱600 to ₱1,200 a day if you mix local eateries with a few restaurant meals.
- Tours and fees: about ₱2,000 to ₱4,000 per person for both days, depending on group size.
These are estimates only. For ways to save, see travel Cebu on a budget.
Tips for a smoother trip
- Book the ferry in advance in peak months (December to May) and holiday weekends.
- Wear sunscreen on the boat. The sun reflects off the water.
- Carry cash. Some sights and small restaurants do not take cards.
- Be kind to animals. Avoid places that let you hold tarsiers or feed marine life.
- Pack out your rubbish and bring a refillable bottle.
